Love leads to obedience

Abraham's act of giving up his son Isaac as the sacrificial lamb is seen as his dedication and faithfulness to obey God's commands. Prior to this, God had promised Abraham that the world would be blessed through his descendants. Isaac's birth was one of the many layers of fulfilment of this promise. But Abraham was faithful and fearful of God that he was ready to sacrifice this son, the rightful heir when he was asked to. The dedication of a Godly man in such a tough situation.

With all that being said, let's look at the other main character of the plot, Isaac. In the passage given in Genesis 22, this boy is not given any voice at all. But, he was not a little boy devoid of understanding the situation. He was old enough to refuse being bounded as a slaughter lamb. Still, we see this boy probably in his early teens, obediently succumbing to his father's plan.

God's command to sacrifice Isaac was just a test. Even before Abraham knew anything, a ram was caught in a bush right in the place where they made the altar for sacrifice.

Here we see two people dedicating their lives completely to God. Abraham is the first to be called the man who fears God. He faithfully obeyed God's command to sacrifice his own son. Abraham had loved him very much. A son who was born to him at a very old age. And Isaac, a boy who might have had many aspirations, giving up everything and being a sacrificial lamb. Both the father and the son are fearful of God and his commands. Making God their topmost priority, they kept everything aside.

Mark 12 : 30 " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."

Love is the deepest motivator in human heart. The more we understand the love of God, the more we will want to know of Him and follow Him; making us true followers of his heart.
