Know the Father through the Son

John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.

My dad is a very busy man and people usually take appointments to meet him. I have also seen people lined up outside his office just to meet him. For different people he plays a different role. For some of them he is their senior pastor and for some he is just a boss. But for me he will always be my father. I have often noticed that people are not so comfortable in his presence because he is strict and disciplined. In my case I just barge into his office without knocking. The boldness and the access that I have is because of the realisation that he is my father.

God is all powerful and because of His huge responsibilities He has many roles to play. He is our creator, master, judge, provider and so on. But Jesus came to reveal the Father who loves us. Isn't God just and also a Judge? Yes He is. Cross is the perfect example of His justice. Isn't God our master? Yes He is. But without sonship we can never serve Him. Our service is a response to His love.
Without Jesus, being conscious of God’s Holiness would only result in withdrawal and fear of judgement. Only His love can give us the confidence to face judgement (1 John 4:17) because perfect love casts away all fear (1 John 4:18). Jesus came to reveal the Father who loves us and has compassion on us to an extent that He gave up His only Son for us (John 3:16).

The High Priests in the old testament had to enter the Holiest of Holies once a year to offer the yearly cycle of sacrifices. They were always in an attitude of fear because if God was not pleased with the sacrifice then the ministering priest would be struck dead. But Moses’s attitude was always different. He could go outside the tent to meet God and talk to Him whenever he wanted. Moses was bold and confident because he had already experienced a glimpse of God’s goodness (Exodus 33). We who have seen and experienced Jesus, the face of God, how much more confident should we be to enter His presence? Jesus said if you have seen me then you have seen the Father (John 14:9). Know the Father through the Son.
