He is the same yesterday, today and forever

You can't break God's promises by leaning on them!
Joshua 8:18-19  Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Hold out toward Ai the javelin that is in your hand, for into your hand I will deliver the city.” So Joshua held out toward the city the javelin that was in his hand. As soon as he did this, the men in the ambush rose quickly from their position and rushed forward. They entered the city and captured it and quickly set it on fire.

Indeed God had given victory to the Israelites the very moment they trusted God with HIS word. But in midst of all the strategy and execution, we must understand the crux of the matter. Yes, Joshua and his people got an opportunity to participate in the winning cause but it was only because God was leading them. When the Lord told Joshua to hold out the Javelin, it was a reminiscence of the times of Moses. The Lord had told Moses to stretch out his staff while crossing the Red Sea. Joshua must have been nostalgic about it. The point being it reminded that the very Lord who gave victory to Moses is able to deliver those with Joshua as well.

Many a times in our fast paced life we are so pressured by the challenges that we face. We are so often looking for a breakthrough and a deliverance in the present and the future, that we forget the past. You could reach Ai only crossing the Red sea, then the wilderness, the Jordan, then Jericho and what not. In all of this, the Lord was good and faithful. He has been leading you from strength to strength and from victory to victory.
But still, today when we face a challenge we forget the past and are discouraged because we still tend to be trusting on our strength. But it’s our God who has brought us thus far. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
