The Rev. Dr. Robert South, while preaching one day in 1689, looked up from his notes to observe that his entire congregation was fast asleep--including the King! Appropriately mortified by this discovery, he interrupted his sermon to call out, "Lord Lauderdale, rouse yourself. You snore so loudly that you will wake the King."
Joshua 8:2 You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.”
So Joshua and his people were now looking forward for a victory in Ai. Perhaps God had other plans. He did not fix things like Jericho. Our God is not traditional and monotonous, but He is creative and very interesting. So Daddy comes up with a plan to let His children also enjoy some action and get the joy of participating in what He was doing. It gives the mighty privilege to the Israelites to be involved in the plan of God. But the fact of the matter is that they had to stick to God and hear Him. The victory was basically attached to their dependence and obedience to God.
Perhaps a vast majority of those who are seen as followers of Jesus are bored of the things of God. They don’t find it very interesting to read the Bible, spend time in prayer, attend a Bible study or even go to Church on a Sunday. Some have a set understanding of God and even the people of God as well. We have limited our effort to grow in the Lord. The best we can do is to read Psalm 23 over and over again. In return we do not understand anything in the Bible study and Pastor’s sermon are more like “heavenly experience”. We have no ideas of the songs of worship, so we find it boring when others are jumping with joy and dancing unto the Lord. Due to ignorance, people don’t think there is much to learn in the Lord that can help in other aspects of life.
Whereas it is your spiritual condition that will determine your success in all the areas of life. In all of this, it's our regular dependence on God and complete obedience which will make our lives exciting and really happening. Need a happening life?
