Going Deeper

Acts 18: 28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.

William Jennings Bryan, Secretary of State in Woodrow Wilson's Cabinet, was interviewing a man who was seeking a diplomatic post in China. Bryan warned the applicant that it was necessary to qualify as a linguist. "Can you speak the Chinese language?" he asked. The man was equal to the occasion. Looking Bryan squarely in the eye, he replied, "Try me. Ask me something in Chinese."

Apollos started preaching and teaching with great vigor and passion after his personal time with Aquila and Priscilla. It was indeed a time of defending and propagating the Christian faith. But for sure this time it was with great confidence and real content. He was not simply babbling or making some noises but proving it from the scriptures and making a real point.

Every generation has its challenge of defending the Christian faith. More than any other time we need a good foundation in the scripture and an effective understanding of the Word. It will help us stand strong in any kind of adversary and get going on any day. Going deeper.
