Compete in the Race to Win

1 Corinthians 9:24

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”

At the goodwill games in Edmonton, Canada, the Jamaican team was participating in the four-by-one hundred meter relay. The third leg for the Jamaican team had a friend who was competing in another event nearby. While the sprinter was waiting for the baton, he looked up for a moment to try to catch how his friend was doing in his event. Meanwhile, his fellow teammate who was running the second leg snuck-up to hand over the baton to him. Because he was not focused, there was a mishap during the transfer of the baton. Needless to say, the Jamaican team lost the race. Later, after all the analysis was made, it was concluded that they lost all because the third leg was not focused.

Christians! We are all in a race. And Paul is encouraging us to stay focused, so that we can win the race. Let us stop looking how everyone else runs their race, and focus on running our own race.
