Teach us Proper Accounting

Psalm 90:12

Moses also reminds us of the truth that we are like vapor, compared to God; when our sins are set before God, His wrath overwhelms us. It’s because of His mercy and loving-kindness that we are not all wiped out. Sin is not hidden from Him: our short-lived lives are as open books before the Lord.

A child of God can avoid despair by asking God to teach us to number our days. None of us know the timespan of our lives on this earth. God is the only one who determines that. Hence, Moses is praying for God’s grace and direction to live each day with purpose and meaning. We live in an age where we seldom have the time to think about God’s purpose for our lives due to our busy schedules. Our minds are often left entangled with worldly affairs rather than think on God’s purpose for our lives. There’s nothing wrong with work, or with entertainment, but do we have a sense of purpose? Have we considered what purpose the Lord might have for us, and how we might use the time He has given us to that end? Let our prayer be, “Lord, teach us to number our days that You grant us the wisdom to properly invest our time so that we bring glory to Your name.” All that we see today are fleeting, and only that which is eternal will last.
