Keep Trusting

Luke 9-12 Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been
said, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ”

In his final attempt, Satan tempts Jesus with pride to prove if He is really the son of God. In all the previous attempts Jesus responds to the tactics of the devil with the Word of God. And this time the devil himself uses God’s Word to tempt Jesus. He knows the Word thoroughly and can use it against us by distorting its application. He was advising Christ to put himself unnecessarily in danger, paraphrasing “if you expose yourself to death, contrary to the will of God, angels will protect your life.”

Satan was tempting Jesus to prove his identity by exalting himself in a daring manner against God. Similar to what Lucifer always had wanted for himself and the same reason of his fall from heaven. Here the devil intended to destroy Jesus, hence destroying God’s plan. Jesus quotes from the Old Testament when the Israelites were thirsty in the wilderness and questioned among themselves if the Lord was among us

(Exodus 17:7). God’s word is always the same. It does not change. When He says yes, He means it too. Sometimes we doubt if what God has spoken will come to pass. We question it repeatedly and logically come up with various alternatives. All that what’s expected of us is to trust God and His Word. The very foundation of our Christian walk is to trust in God and know that He will
complete His work (Philippians 1:6).
